When to Enroll

When What to expect
Within 30 days of your hire date or the date your status changed from part-time to full-time
  • Review your SmartChoices benefits options and decide which plans and coverage are right for you and your budget.
  • Enroll in benefits. Enroll online through PetSmart Benefits Center.
  • Be sure to print a copy of your enrollment confirmation. You will also receive a confirmation statement via email.
First day of the month following your hire date
  • Coverage begins for salaried associates.
Date of status change to Full-Time
  • Coverage begins for hourly associates whose status changed to full-time after their 91st day of employment.
91st day following your hire date
  • Coverage begins for full-time hourly associates.
  • Coverage begins for hourly associates whose status changes to full-time prior to their 91st day of employment.
  • Coverage begins for all new hourly and salaried associates enrolled in the Health Care Flexible Spending Account.
Within three to four weeks after you enroll for benefits
  • You will receive your new medical ID cards. Not all plans will send a medical card. Please log into your carrier portal to access a digital copy.
  • If you elected to contribute to a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you will receive a health care spending card from Optum Bank.
  • If you enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and elected an HSA account, you will be issued an HSA debit card to pay for your eligible health care expenses.
Every fall
  • Open enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to review and make changes to your benefits choices.
  • Your new benefits elections become effective the following Jan. 1.

How to Enroll

As a full-time new hire, before you enroll, please take time to review the information above to see your plan options. 

First time using the Benefits Portal? Click New User? under the Log On button. Be prepared to create your account with your Date of Birth, Full Name, Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number, and zip code. 

Did you recently change status from a part-time associate to a full-time associate? Congratulations! You are eligible to enroll in the benefits program. Enrollment is easy! Visit the Work or Life Changes page.

Don’t miss your enrollment deadline. If you do, you won’t be able to enroll until the next open enrollment period in the fall of each year unless you have a qualified status change.
