Your benefits are a big part of your total rewards. PetSmart is committed to offering associates a competitive and valuable benefits package. In this section, you will learn more about what benefits and offerings you are eligible for based on your full-time or part-time status.

When to Enroll

When What to expect
Within 45 days of your hire date or the date your status changed from part-time to full-time
  • Review your SmartChoices benefits options and decide which plans and coverage are right for you and your budget.
  • Enroll in benefits. Enroll online through HR Connect.
  • Be sure to print a copy of your enrollment confirmation or include your personal email and receive your confirmation by email. You will not receive a confirmation statement in the mail.
First day of the month following your hire date
  • Coverage begins for salaried associates.
First day of month following status change to Full-Time
  • Coverage begins for hourly associates whose status changed to full-time after their 91st day of employment.
91st day following your hire date
  • Coverage begins for full-time hourly associates.
  • Coverage begins for all new hourly and salaried associates enrolled in the Health Care Flexible Spending Account and the Dependent Day Care Account.
Within three to four weeks after you enroll for benefits
  • You will receive your new medical ID card from UnitedHealthcare (UHC), a separate prescription drug card from CVS Caremark and a dental card from Cigna, if enrolled. You will not receive a card from VSP if enrolled in our vision plan.
  • If you enrolled in a medical plan with the Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) option or if you elected to contribute to a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you will receive a health care spending card from UnitedHealthcare.
  • If you enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), you will need to open an HSA with Optum Financial. You will be issued an HSA debit card to pay for your eligible health care expenses.
Every fall
  • Open enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to review and make changes to your benefits choices.
  • Your new benefits elections become effective the following Jan. 1.

How to Enroll

As a full-time new hire, before you enroll, please take time to review the information above to see your plan options. Then visit HR Connect to make your elections. 

First time using HR Connect? Click Get Started, from the home page of HR Connect, for instructions to set up a user ID and password. (Note: HR Connect is not available on Mondays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Arizona/Mountain time for payroll processing.) If you need help accessing HR Connect, call 1-866-263-8411. 

Did you recently change status from a part-time associate to a full-time associate? Congratulations! You are eligible to enroll in the benefits program. Enrollment is easy! Visit the Work or Life Changes page.

Don’t miss your enrollment deadline. If you do, you won’t be able to enroll until the next open enrollment period in the fall of each year unless you have a qualified status change.
