About your paycheck

Here are some things you need to know about your paycheck.

When you’ll get paid

Hourly associates are paid every Friday. Salaried associates are paid every other Friday.

Who to contact if you have payroll-related questions

  • If you work in a store or SSG, contact your manager. If necessary, your manager will contact a Payroll Specialist.
  • If you work in a Distribution Center, contact your Human Resources Manager.

How to receive your pay

Understanding your paycheck – earnings and deductions

Each time you receive your paycheck (or pay statement, if direct deposit is in effect), you should take a few moments to make sure your information is correct. Here is an overview of the information you’ll see:

  • Personal Information. This section includes your name and address. It also shows tax information, like your Social Security number, exemptions (federal and state), additional withholdings, and your marital status.
  • Earnings Information. In this section, you’ll find current pay and the details of your earnings, including rate of pay, hours worked, and total gross earnings.
  • Deduction Information. There are two main types of information in this section:
    • Statutory withholding, like federal and state tax, FICA, Medicare, and unemployment and disability taxes
    • Before-tax and after-tax withholdings elected through health care and other optional benefits, as well as 401(k) contributions.

If you are a new full-time associate scheduled to work 36 or more hours per week, you are eligible to participate in PetSmart’s SmartChoices benefits package, which includes quality programs, innovative health plans for you and your family, and a 401(k) Plan to help you save for retirement.

If you are a new part-time associate, you're eligible for medical and dental benefits through Aetna Affordable Health Choices. If you have questions or want more information, call Aetna at 1-888-772-9682.

Timing and key dates for new full-time PetSmart associates

When What to Expect
Within 31 days of your hire date
  • Review your SmartChoices benefits options and decide which plans and coverage are right for you and your budget.
  • Enroll for benefits before the deadline that’s listed on your Personalized Enrollment Worksheet. Enroll online.
First day of the month following your hire date
  • Coverage begins for salaried associates.
91st day following your hire date
  • Coverage begins for full-time hourly associates.
Within one week after you enroll for benefits
  • You will receive a confirmation statement at your home address, which confirms your enrollment choices.
Within three to four weeks after you enroll for benefits
  • You will receive your new medical ID card from UnitedHealthcare and a separate prescription drug card from CVS Caremark.
  • If you enrolled in a medical option with the Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) option or if you elected to contribute to a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you will receive a Consumer Accounts Card from UnitedHealthcare (UHC).
Every fall
  • Open enrollment takes place – your once-a-year opportunity to review and make changes to your benefits choices.
  • Your new benefits elections become effective the following Jan. 1.
