What You Need to Do

New associate checklist

For your first day

Bring two forms of identification. These will be used as a reference to complete employment forms and can include driver’s license, birth certificate, or passport.
Complete and submit your employment and payroll-related forms.

There are three ways to receive your pay. Read this Pay Selection Enrollment Guide (Adobe® PDF) for information on direct deposit (Adobe® PDF) and the Money Network options.

Within 31 days of your hire date
For your first paycheck (and ongoing)

Take a moment to review each of the sections on your paycheck to ensure your personal data is correct.

If you find any errors, here is who you can contact:

  • If you work in a store or SSG, contact your manager. If necessary, your manager will contact a Payroll Specialist.
  • If you work in a Distribution Center, contact your Human Resources Manager.
Enroll for benefits.

You can enroll online.

After six months
Begin saving for retirement through the SaveSmart 401(k) Plan.
  • You can participate if you are 18 years of age or older, you have completed six months of employment with PetSmart, and you worked at least 1,000 hours during that time.
  • To enroll, call Fidelity – the 401(k) Plan administrator – at 1-888-401K-PET or go to www.401k.com. Be sure to check out the cool and interactive financial planning tools on Fidelity’s website.

Consider taking advantage of the PetSmart Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).

It’s a great opportunity to purchase shares of PetSmart common stock at a 5% discount from what you would generally pay on the open market.

  • You are eligible to participate in the ESPP once you’ve completed at least six months of employment and worked at least 20 hours per week for at least five months per calendar year.
  • You can participate with convenient payroll deductions, contributing between 1% and 15% of your gross pay.
  • When you’re eligible, you’ll receive separate enrollment information during the open enrollment period. There are open enrollments in January and July of each year.

When and how to enroll for benefits

Within 31 days of your hire date, you can enroll online. Before you enroll, you should:

  • Review your Personalized Enrollment Worksheet to see your plan options and associated costs.
  • Take the interactive PPO Quiz for help selecting which medical plan option might be right for you.

When coverage begins

  • For salaried associates, coverage begins on the first day of the month following your hire date.
  • For full-time hourly associates, coverage begins on the 91st day following your hire date assuming you have enrolled during the enrollment window within your first 31 days of hire.
